You'd think that there was nothing new under the sun when it comes to golf shoes but you'd be wrong! With the introduction of Ecco's uber-cool new Street Golf Shoes a whole new style was invented. Ecco were first to market but they were closely followed by Footjoy, and now Adidas after some of the action too with their new Ashworth range. This article talks about each of the brands. Well, it all comes down to personal taste but I'd say that ECCO has the first to market edge and the Fred Couples endorsement gives them that cool edge.
ECCO Street Golf Shoes - ECCO needs to take full credit for creating this new cool look. Did they just get lucky? Fred Couples created a sensation when he wore them at the 2010 Masters. However, he actually wore the golf shoes for health reasons - he had a sore back and felt that his normal golf shoes would make it worse, hence wearing his hybrid Street shoes. Since then the other big brands have scrambled to produce a similar street golf shoe to capitalise on this new look. Available now in the UK.
Footjoy Street Golf Shoes should be hitting UK stores later this year and are sure to be a big hit. They are second to market so only time will tell how successful they are with it. Footjoy do have a large loyal customer base though and if they get the design right then the sales will surely follow. Like the Ecco Streets, Footjoy Street Golf Shoes are designed to be worn both on and off the golf course. The hybrid spikeless sole means that they can be worn just like a training shoe. Should be available in the UK this summer 2011..
Adidas Ashworth Golf Shoes are the latest addition to the street golf shoe market. No sport shoe manufacturer, with the exception of possibly Nike, has a back catalogue of cool looking street shoes like Adidas. Drawing on their rich heritage of simple but sleek designs Adidas has produced possibly the coolest looking street golf shoe yet with the Adidas Ashworths. They are available in leather and suede and they look very cool indeed. In summing up I'd say they will have much broader appeal than both the Ecco and Footjoy shoes because they look more youthful, sporty and have much cleaner design.
