It was certainly a crowd with baited breath at Niketown Chicago, awaiting the release of the 2010/2011 Manchester United kit, and Aon, Manchester United, and Nike did not disappoint. A red carpet was literally rolled out at the store's Michigan Avenue entrance, and Aon/Man U partnership signs, featuring the likeness of Wayne Rooney, Park, Van der Sar and Ferdinand littered the walls and entrances

The new Manchester United 2010-11 Home Polo Shirt is with revived polo. The polo style soccer jersey looks cool. Different from past years, Coombes noted three elements particular to this new kit: Innovation (the chevron shaped perforations to provide breathability on the back of the jersey); Sustainability (the jersey is crafted out of recycled plastic water bottles); and detailing specifically inspired by the history of this particular club (namely, the revived polo collar seen throughout the 1970's kits, as well as the inclusion of the word "believe" on the inside of the shirt, behind the crest).

Nuances of the 2010/2011 Polo Shirt jersey

• Red, white, but not as much black as the 2009/2010 jersey, dominate, de rigueur for Man U jerseys ever since they changed from Newton Heath's green and gold.
• The polo collar, harkening back to the 1970s, is back, but for the first time under Nike's Man U designs.
• The chevron we saw last season is now at the back of the shirt. The new, perforated, multi-descending chevron design adds breathability and moisture absorbency with engineered mesh.
• The back of the crest on the inside of the shirt states firmly, "Believe," and while it is invisible to the outside, it's placed strategically close to the heart of every player and fan who sports the jersey.
• Nike Dri-Fit Fabric, which composes the shirt, is 13% lighter than previous kits, which helps evaporate moisture on the players, while also allowing for a double knit structure that provides a sleeker look with 10% more stretch.
• The cut of the shirt is not too boxy, rather it follows the natural contours of the body without hugging it too closely.
• The shirt is made from recycled polyester originating from plastic water bottles that make up around 254,000 kg of polyester waste (enough to cover 29 football pitches if laid out consecutively). Said Coombs in a subsequent interview, sustainability is part of Nike's design ethos, a commitment throughout the company and an integral part of the design process. Other clubs whose shirts Nike designs include FC Barcelona, Inter Milan, Arsenal and Celtic, all of which have kits using recycled materials
